TCS Creative Labs

Overview:

The Collective Sound Creative Labs after school program is designed for students 12-18 years of age utilizing the instruments of guitar, bass, drums, voice, keyboard, samplers and electronic music equipment. The program is intended to supplement private instruction and provide an environment for creative collaboration with the end result being live performance. The rented or purchased space will consist of band backline equipment, PA system, recording equipment, video camera, still camera, and a computer. The supervised space will enable young musicians to exercise the creative process of writing, recording and preparing for a show. Each semester will culminate to a live concert at a public venue with other creative labs students and headlining acts. Recordings, photos, EPKs, and music videos made during the course of the semester will be published to the Internet. Many young musicians have desire to write, perform and record music, but do not have an opportunity due to the prohibitive cost of entry. There is also a void in the space of education as it applies to contemporary music genres. We believe that it is imperative to enable our youth to understand current technologies as they apply to creativity and the music industry. By creating these labs we will empower a generation to succeed as the creative visionaries and leaders of the future.

Goals:

  • To create environments of supervised creative collaboration
  • Educate students in various music technologies and recording techniques
  • Provide insight into the music industry for aspiring musicians and/or related music careers
  • Enable students to produce additional creative collateral other than music, in the form of photos and videos
  • To provide students with live performance opportunities

Curriculum:

  • Supervised band rehearsal in practice room
  • Write an original song with band each semester
  • Online band EPK creation for the song
  • Record original song in studio
  • Music video for original song
  • Photos of band
  • Edit photos, video, and recording on computer (upload to epk)
  • Live performance of song
  • Attend workshops and guest lectures
