TCS Creative Labs

Creating Space...

Many young musicians have the desire to write, perform, and record music but do not have the opportunity to do so due to the high cost of entry into the conventional music industry, as well as a void in music education as it applies to contemporary music genres. TCS makes room for youth to succeed as creative visionaries and leaders of the future by providing kids, age 12-18 years of age, the space, tools and guidance needed to express themselves in today’s music context.

Utilizing guitar, bass, drums, voice, keyboard samplers and electronic music equipment, TCS “Creative Labs” are intended to supplement private instruction within a supervised environment for creative collaboration ultimately culminating in live performance. Equipped with band back-line equipment, PA System, recording equipment, video camera, still camera and computer, “Creative Labs” enable young musicians to exercise the creative process of writing, recording and preparing their own original music for a live \, public concert with other students and headlining bands.

As part of creating access to a wider audience for young musicians, recordings, photos, EPK’s, and music videos made during the semester will be published to the Internet.

TCS “Creative Labs” operate as a non-profit, much like a YMCA or Boys & Girls Club, to the benefit of a wide range of socioeconomic groups as a result of sponsorship and fundraising. The relationship of “Creative Labs” to TCS’s Summer Music Academy and the Element Youth Movement CoOp Tour further offset the installation costs. Student fees will also help support the program.
